The Central Bank of Mongolia has approved regulatory changes to credit information reports for individuals and businesses to support Mongolia’s move from a classification-based system to a credit scoring model. The amended reporting framework took effect on 1 September 2025 and excludes from credit reports all information that had been recorded as non-performing loans in the credit information database as of that date. From 10 September 2025, credit information providers, including banks and other financial institutions, will assess the creditworthiness of individuals and enterprises using the new scoring system. The changes follow May 2025 amendments to the Law on Credit Information enacted by the State Great Khural, and the Central Bank’s deputy governor noted that the new approach removes the concepts of “poor credit history” and blacklists, with credit scores expected to adjust dynamically as repayment behaviour changes.
