The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a Chong Hing Bank Limited press release about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. It advised anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions through the fraudulent sites or login screens to contact Chong Hing Bank using the details in its press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
