The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert following a press release by Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Customers who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent websites or login screens are advised to contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
