The European Central Bank published balance sheet data showing total assets and liabilities increased by EUR 7.324 billion from the previous week to EUR 6.186 trillion. On the asset side, the largest increases were in other assets, up EUR 8.905 billion, claims on non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency, up EUR 1.297 billion, and lending to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations, up EUR 642 million. These gains were partly offset by a EUR 2.005 billion decline in securities of euro area residents denominated in euro, including a EUR 4.983 billion fall in securities held for monetary policy purposes, and a EUR 2.062 billion drop in other claims on euro area credit institutions denominated in euro. On the liabilities side, deposits of euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations fell EUR 18.872 billion to EUR 2.410 trillion, driven by a EUR 16.393 billion reduction in the deposit facility and a EUR 2.479 billion fall in current accounts, while liabilities to non-euro area residents denominated in euro rose EUR 28.549 billion and banknotes in circulation increased EUR 362 million.
