The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert to the public following Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Limited’s press release on a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen are advised to contact the bank using the details in Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Limited’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
