The discussion centered on improving payment system efficiency, strengthening technological infrastructure to reduce service interruptions and maintain continuity of services to citizens. The meeting also examined progress on enabling Visa card payments in foreign currency through domestic point-of-sale terminals as part of broader efforts to diversify electronic payment methods. It reviewed the assessment of electronic payment companies against the Central Bank of Libya’s technical, regulatory and supervisory requirements, and discussed expanding electronic wallet use to support financial inclusion and encourage expatriate workers to use these services. Governor Naji Issa called for closer coordination between banks and payment companies, continuous resolution of operational problems and stronger cybersecurity measures to protect digital infrastructure, customer data and uninterrupted banking services.
