The European Banking Authority has published guidance for banks on how to manage enhanced operational risk reporting under the amended Implementing Technical Standards, following the European Commission’s decision to delay the application of the new reporting obligations to the end of June 2026 under Regulation (EU) 2025/2475. The note clarifies what institutions should submit for the March 2026 reference date and what is deferred to June 2026. Institutions should use the COREP OF module (release 4.2) for operational risk reporting. Templates C 16.02, C 16.03 and C 16.04 are not required for the March 2026 reference date and become mandatory for the first time for June 2026, although banks may submit them voluntarily from March 2026. Template C 16.01 remains reportable for March 2026 using the updated technical tables in release 4.2, but the “other operating expenses” information is not required for that reference date. Amended reporting and disclosure instructions have also been published, with application from the end-June 2026 reference date, alongside a revised “Overview of the IT solutions” file and an updated mapping tool linking reporting and disclosure templates. The EBA will update its signposting tool to reflect the revised obligations and encourages banks to use the updated instructions and tools to prepare for the June 2026 implementation.
