The State Bank of Vietnam reported the expanded rollout of a Vietnam–China bilateral retail QR payment service, launched by the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), Ant International and Vietcombank. From 3 April 2026, Chinese visitors can pay for goods and services in Vietnam using the Alipay e-wallet by scanning VIETQRGlobal at participating merchants. Payments are processed via the connectivity infrastructure between NAPAS and Ant International and settled through Vietcombank, enabling direct transactions between renminbi and Vietnamese dong. The service is available across NAPAS member acceptance points in Vietnam, including retail, restaurants, hotels and tourism-related outlets, and is positioned as part of the initiatives referenced in the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the State Bank of Vietnam and the People’s Bank of China. The State Bank of Vietnam’s Payment Department called for NAPAS and Alipay to accelerate completion of the “Vietnam outbound” leg so Vietnamese users can pay in China using domestic bank payment applications to scan Alipay QR codes; NAPAS and Ant International indicated this rollout would be completed soon.
