The Islamic Development Bank and Benin signed co-financing agreements for two development projects covering transport infrastructure and sustainable agriculture. The bank will provide a combined EUR 326.06 million following bilateral talks on Benin’s development priorities at the 2026 World Bank-International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings. The bank will contribute EUR 306.89 million toward the EUR 576.06 million expansion and upgrading of the Godomey-Ouidah-Hillacondji road. The project is intended to improve safety and efficiency, lower travel times and transport costs, and strengthen regional trade and connectivity along the Abidjan-Lagos corridor. A further EUR 19.17 million will support a EUR 20.70 million project promoting legume-based agricultural systems across five development poles. The initiative aims to improve soil fertility, food security and climate resilience.
