The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission has expanded its “Insured Restaurant & Café” project in Songkhla, positioning insurance as both a consumer protection tool and a risk management measure for restaurant operators. The initiative is aimed at raising protection standards for diners while supporting confidence in the province’s tourism and service sectors. The scheme promotes embedded insurance by making cover part of the restaurant service offering. Customers at participating restaurants displaying the “Insured Restaurant & Café” mark receive protection for accidents and other damage that may occur while using the service, while the additional “Warmใจ Plus” mark extends cover to food poisoning. The Office of Insurance Commission linked the Songkhla rollout to the province’s exposure to floods and other natural disasters, including past flooding in 2000, 2010 and Hat Yai in 2025, which widened awareness of insurance for property, premises and business continuity. It also cited Songkhla’s readiness for the project, noting its UNESCO City of Gastronomy recognition in 2025, its more than 7,200 restaurant operators and its position as the southern region’s largest market for direct written premiums.
