The Iceland Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has published a report on Iceland's currency options, prepared by a group of foreign experts at the finance minister's initiative, and used a conference in early June to present the work. The report is intended to examine the main options and challenges under different currency arrangements and provide a basis for informed discussion on Iceland's future monetary framework. The conference at Harpa was held in both Icelandic and English. Its program focused on the expert group's findings and broader discussion of the krona, the euro and the future of Iceland's currency arrangements, alongside a separate panel on how a changed currency environment could affect the labor market and competitiveness. Participants included the finance minister, Central Bank of Iceland officials, one of the report's authors and representatives from academia, industry, labor and banking. An Icelandic translation of the report is being prepared for publication.
