The National Bank of Moldova published its monthly statistics and methodology for the non-cash foreign exchange market, covering banks’ purchases and sales of foreign currency against the Moldovan leu and excluding transactions conducted by the central bank. The published data show activity in spot transactions, with no swap or forward turnover reported. On the interbank spot market, purchases totalled EUR 37.36m and sales EUR 21.10m (EUR equivalent), mainly in euros and US dollars, alongside Romanian leu (RON) sales of EUR 6.05m. In the intrabank segment (banks with clients), spot purchases were EUR 308.26m and sales EUR 530.94m, dominated by euros (EUR 152.59m bought and EUR 269.86m sold) and US dollars (EUR 145.08m bought and EUR 226.75m sold), with RON sales of EUR 26.33m. Transactions are recorded on the trade date and converted to EUR using monthly average exchange rates, and the series is scheduled for publication by the end of the month following the reporting period.
