The State Bank of Pakistan’s Banking Services Corporation (SBP BSC) and UN Women Pakistan have signed a memorandum of understanding establishing long-term cooperation to strengthen financial inclusion, financial literacy and access to finance, with a focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The partnership is framed around improving women’s economic participation through better access to financial resources and knowledge. The cooperation areas include joint seminars and conferences, capacity-building and awareness programmes, and collaborative research to identify barriers to women’s financial inclusion. The MoU also aims to promote wider adoption of digital financial services and expand access to finance in underserved regions and social strata. The document does not create legally binding obligations and is positioned as a framework for the organisations to leverage expertise, networks and resources, including in the context of UN Women’s work linked to the Beijing+30 review process and Pakistan’s national gender-equality commitments.
