The Luxembourg Ministry of Finance reported that Finance Minister Gilles Roth visited London from July 1 to 2, 2026, for a financial mission organized with Luxembourg for Finance and used the trip to press for closer cooperation with the United Kingdom. In talks at 11 Downing Street with his British counterpart Rachel Reeves, the two ministers emphasized the strong relationship between the Luxembourg and UK financial centers and discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation, particularly to support cross-border investment. The discussions were framed around shared European Union and UK financing needs, including the digital and green transitions and higher defense spending, with London and Luxembourg presented as international financial centers that can help mobilize private capital for those priorities. During the visit, Roth also spoke at an Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry conference in London attended by around 1,000 fund industry professionals, met insurance and reinsurance representatives at a Luxembourg for Finance working lunch, and held separate meetings with senior UK financial sector figures on the prospects for developing their activities in Luxembourg and on international market developments.
