The Central Bank of Taiwan reported that banks’ derivatives turnover declined 11.65% from the previous month to TWD 21,350.7 billion in August 2026, primarily because of lower foreign exchange swap activity. Foreign exchange contracts remained dominant, accounting for 89.06% of total turnover, while interest rate contracts represented 9.88%. Foreign exchange contract turnover fell 9.64% to TWD 19,013.9 billion, and interest rate contract turnover dropped 25.56% to TWD 2,109.7 billion. Contracts involving the New Taiwan dollar declined 15.02% and accounted for 40.10% of total activity, while contracts between foreign currencies fell 9.24% and represented 59.90%. Domestic banks generated 74.12% of turnover, with the five largest participants accounting for 39.04%.
