The National Bank of Moldova published aggregate August data showing that licensed banks held foreign exchange assets of MDL 59.254 billion and liabilities of MDL 58.683 billion at month-end, resulting in a net long position of MDL 570.6 million. Total regulatory capital stood at MDL 26.459 billion. Long positions totaled MDL 666.9 million, led by a MDL 582.8 million euro position equivalent to 2.20% of regulatory capital. Short positions totaled MDL 96.3 million, principally in U.S. dollars at MDL 64.6 million and Russian rubles at MDL 26.2 million, representing negative ratios of 0.24% and 0.10%, respectively. On a monthly-average basis, foreign currency loans accounted for 36.7% of assets, while customer current and term deposits represented 49.9% and 32% of liabilities.
