The Georgian Parliament has approved four new members of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Board, endorsing candidates nominated by the President of Georgia: Vakhtang Burkiashvili, Levan Dzneladze, Nino Jeladze and Otar Shamugia. Before the plenary vote, the nominees appeared before Parliament’s Finance and Budget Committee to present their professional background and vision for the NBG and to respond to questions from members of parliament. The appointees bring experience from the public and private sectors in finance and banking; three previously held leadership roles at the NBG, while Shamugia joins the Board after a long tenure at the Ministry of Agriculture. Under the appointment framework described by the NBG, Board members are elected by Parliament for seven-year terms based on presidential nominations, and the Board now comprises nine members.
