The Hong Kong Monetary Authority published a scam alert following reports of fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and related scams involving several banks. The alert references bank press releases concerning fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens affecting The Bank of East Asia, Limited, Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited, Chong Hing Bank Limited and OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to the scams is advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
