The National Bank of Bulgaria announced that Governor Dimitar Radev has nominated Karina Karaivanova for deputy governor and head of the bank’s Issue Department. The nomination is made under the National Assembly’s 25 February 2026 decision to open the procedure for electing a deputy governor responsible for the Issue Department, adopted on the basis of constitutional provisions, the Assembly’s rules of procedure and the National Bank of Bulgaria Act. Karaivanova’s experience spans senior roles in public finance and the financial sector, including positions at the Ministry of Finance (including as deputy minister), chair of the Financial Supervision Commission, and Bulgaria’s representative on the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
