Finance ministers also discussed strengthening cooperation on customs, taxation, insurance, infrastructure financing, treasury and public finance management, and called for streamlined cross-sector engagement on energy, disaster, health and food security. The meeting supported Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability", with Mohd Amin Liew underscoring the importance of economic and trade linkages and arguing that a sustainable finance framework is critical to mobilising climate finance and sustainable investment. The release also referenced an ASEAN Economic Ministers video conference following United States tariff measures announced on 2 April 2025 and suspended on 9 April 2025, which was followed by a joint statement issued on 10 April 2025. Separately, Mohd Amin Liew held bilateral talks with Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry on bilateral economic and trade relations and cooperation to reduce the impact of trade measures, and met representatives of the ASEAN–United States Business Council to explore collaboration in financial and digital sectors using ASEAN platforms.
