The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Southern Highlands Zone office participated in a three-day motor vehicle inspection exercise in Mbozi and Momba districts in Songwe Region, alongside the Police and insurance companies and agents. The exercise, which began on 2 March 2026 in Tunduma, assessed compliance with motor vehicle insurance requirements and provided insurance education to road users, including drivers and passengers. Vehicles found without insurance were given the option to purchase cover on the spot instead of being penalised, while those who refused were fined under road safety laws. More than 800 vehicles were inspected, including three-wheelers (bajaj), private cars, cargo trucks and passenger buses. TIRA indicated it will continue to expand insurance education efforts and carry out regular inspections to support compliance with the law.
