The Uruguay Ministry of Economy and Finance organized two regional technical exchange sessions on 25 and 26 May under the Climate Finance project it co-leads, bringing together officials from Chile, Paraguay and Costa Rica to share experience on the design and implementation of green taxonomies. The exchanges, held with the Ministry of Environment and the Central Bank of Uruguay, were intended to support Uruguay’s national process for mobilising sustainable investment and advancing a low-emissions, climate-resilient economy. The initiative was financed by the Green Climate Fund and supported by the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation. Chile presented a multilevel governance model built around sector-specific technical criteria and international validation. Paraguay outlined how it incorporated climate adaptation into its taxonomy and linked the framework with public expenditure tagging. Costa Rica shared its early coordination with banks, insurers and cooperatives and lessons from a pilot with financial institutions. Discussions focused on governance, sectoral criteria, links with public spending and the conditions for piloting a taxonomy with Uruguay’s financial sector.
