Mexico’s National Commission for the Protection and Defence of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published complaint statistics for Tamaulipas covering January to August 2025, reporting 3,270 complaints, up 17.0% versus the same period in 2024 and representing 1.8% of complaints nationwide. The amount claimed totalled MXN 133.1 million (down 9.9% year on year) and the amount recovered was MXN 7.9 million (down 63.3%). Complaints were filed by users in 28 of Tamaulipas’ 43 municipalities, led by Tampico (12.7% of the state total), Ciudad Madero (8.0%) and Reynosa (7.2%). Most cases were handled via Electronic Case Management (65.3%), followed by REDECO-related case management linked to debt-collection practices (24.8%) and other processes (9.9%). Credit cards, debit cards and personal loans accounted for 48.2% of complaints, while the top drivers were unrecognised transactions and two debt-collection related issues (threatening or intimidating behaviour and collection actions directed at non-debtors), together representing 31.0%. By sector, multiple banking accounted for 57.0% of complaints, followed by SOFOM ENR (12.2%) and insurers (12.2%). Within multiple banking, 23.9% of complaints involved older adults, and 42.4% related to potential fraud, mainly unrecognised card transactions and unrecognised electronic transfers; CONDUSEF also reiterated that its procedures are free and do not require intermediaries.
