The Chile Financial Market Commission (CMF) announced that Catherine Tornel León has assumed the role of Chairwoman of the CMF Board. Tornel’s prior public-sector roles include Coordinator of Capital Markets at the Ministry of Finance (2018–2020) and positions at the Central Bank of Chile, including as an advisor to its Board and as a member of the Committee for the Setting of Exchange Rate Limits, as well as senior economist in the central bank’s Infrastructure and Financial Regulation Office (2008–2018). Her private-sector experience includes serving as vice-president of Transbank and as a board member of Banchile Administradora General de Fondos, alongside roles at Banco de Chile, COMBANC, and several BBVA insurance and pension entities; she also holds academic posts and has taught finance at multiple universities. In remarks on taking up the position, she pointed to strengthening and improving the CMF’s regulatory and supervisory processes as a priority.
