The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets published a keynote speech by board member Hanzo van Beusekom on the Savings and Investments Union (SIU), delivered at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) during a symposium of the Institute for Financial Law. Van Beusekom argued that Europe has a strong foundation but is not moving fast enough, and that the SIU could become a catalyst for change if friction is reduced through simplification, predictability is increased through harmonisation, and markets and supervision are made future-proof through modernisation. He linked greater simplicity, consistency and digital capability to better functioning capital markets, faster corporate growth and more efficient and effective supervision.
