Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defence of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) issued a consumer alert after detecting cases of suspected identity impersonation affecting BAUBAP, S.A.P.I. de C.V., SOFOM, E.N.R. Unknown individuals allegedly used the firm’s name, image and data through a fake iOS application, “Baubap: Préstamos sin Buró”, to offer supposed loans, while BAUBAP’s official app is stated to be available only on Android. CONDUSEF flagged an observed modus operandi (identified in November 2025) in which impostors posing as advisers or executives offer immediate credit and request advance payments labelled as “commission”, “release”, “verification” or “loan activation”. After victims deposit funds, typically into third-party accounts, the alleged fraudsters stop responding, block the victim, or send intimidating messages demanding more money without granting any credit. CONDUSEF advised consumers not to transfer money or pay in advance before signing a formal contract, to confirm information through official channels, and to verify the institution’s registration and details in CONDUSEF’s SIPRES registry.
