The Reserve Bank of Australia reported total assets and liabilities of AUD 358.95 billion at the close of business on Aug. 26, down AUD 2.27 billion from the previous week. Exchange Settlement balances fell by AUD 32.08 billion, largely offset by a AUD 30.31 billion increase in other deposits. Gold and foreign exchange assets declined by AUD 1.10 billion, mainly because of valuation changes in gold and foreign currency investments. Australian dollar investments decreased by AUD 772 million, primarily reflecting securities transactions.
