The Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia held an educational meeting at Kutaisi International University as part of a week of events dedicated to Insurance Day, briefing students on insurance fundamentals and the actuarial profession. The session was delivered by Ana Kharatishvili, President of the Service and President of the Association of Actuaries and Financial Analysts. The programme covered the role of actuaries, the development of the actuarial profession, insurance history and types of insurance, an overview of the insurance market, insurers’ organisational structures, and the framework for insurance supervision and legislation. It also introduced the International Association of Actuaries and the Association of Actuaries and Financial Analysts, followed by a Q&A with students. The Service and the University will issue a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on students’ professional development in insurance, including awareness-raising and the involvement of licensed insurers in Georgia, with both sides signalling plans for further joint educational projects. The release also notes that Georgia’s first Law on Insurance was signed on 2 May 1997 and that Insurance Day was first celebrated on 2 May 2022.
