The Central Bank of Solomon Islands and the Solomon Islands Government have relaunched the Small and Medium Enterprises Credit Guarantee Scheme to improve access to finance for micro, small and medium enterprises. The central bank will administer the scheme, which is intended to reduce collateral-related barriers for viable businesses, particularly rural enterprises and businesses owned by women, young people, cooperatives and Indigenous entrepreneurs. The scheme previously supported more than 160 enterprises. The central bank identified simpler application processes, stronger financial literacy and business support services, and greater participation by financial institutions as priorities for improving access to finance.
