The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority reported progress toward activating regulated short selling, reviewing the central securities lending system and other operational infrastructure needed to implement its recently issued framework. The update marks the implementation phase rather than the launch of trading, with the authority calling for all technical requirements and training to be completed soon. The system will connect Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry, the Egyptian Exchange, licensed brokerages and custodians, while documenting each stage of a transaction. Borrowers will be able to review available lending offers and select those matching their investment objectives, while lenders can view other offers registered in the system. Licensed brokerages are to be trained on the platform and must establish the technology needed for full connectivity before launch.
