The National Bank of Bulgaria announced that Governor Dimitar Radev and Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova signed and sent a joint letter to European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen requesting the preparation of extraordinary convergence reports for Bulgaria as part of the country’s preparations to adopt the euro. The request follows the National Assembly decision of 26 July 2024 to accelerate and complete Bulgaria’s euro adoption preparations and the Council of Ministers Decision No 92 of 24 February 2025 authorising a formal request to the European Commission and the European Central Bank under Article 140 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

The National Bank of Bulgaria, led by Governor Dimitar Radev, and Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova have requested extraordinary convergence reports from the European Central Bank and the European Commission to expedite Bulgaria's euro adoption. This follows the National Assembly's decision to accelerate euro adoption preparations and the Council of Ministers' authorization under Article 140 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU.
