The National Bank of Moldova published banking system statistics on cash operations for January 2025, showing cumulative cash receipts at banks’ cash desks exceeded cumulative cash withdrawals by MDL 628.6 million. Total receipts rose to MDL 14,029.4 million (+4.7% year on year) while withdrawals increased to MDL 13,400.8 million (+5.8%). Receipts were led by cash from sales of consumer goods, which reached MDL 7,822.7 million (55.8% of total, +3.1%), alongside higher cash paid into individuals’ current and deposit accounts (up MDL 211.5 million, +16.1%) and other receipts (up MDL 139.8 million, +6.7%); receipts from other services fell by MDL 115.8 million (-10.9%). The rise in withdrawals was driven mainly by higher ATM withdrawals (up MDL 521.3 million, +10.0%) and cash disbursed as loans to individuals (up MDL 168.6 million, +82.7%), while withdrawals to purchase foreign currency from individuals rose by MDL 114.0 million to MDL 2,955.3 million (equivalent to EUR 153.2 million), representing 22.1% of total withdrawals; withdrawals for wages and social payments declined by MDL 96.4 million (-7.4%).
