The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has begun recruiting an Assistant Governor Monetary Policy, an Assistant Governor Payments and Cash and a chief of staff following a review of its Executive Leadership Team. The review was prompted by Assistant Governor Money Karen Silk’s planned departure in mid-December, with the new structure intended to expand leadership capacity, clarify accountability and improve coordination across the central bank’s core responsibilities. The monetary policy appointee will lead the combined Economics, Research and Financial Markets functions, overseeing policy analysis, forecasting, reserve management and monetary policy implementation. The Reserve Bank board is expected to recommend the successful candidate to the minister of finance for appointment to the Monetary Policy Committee. The payments and cash appointee will oversee payment and settlement systems, financial market infrastructure and cash, including the bank’s payments modernization agenda and work on the future of money and cash accessibility. The chief of staff and additional assistant governor position will be funded within the operational budget under the 2025-2030 Five-Year Funding Agreement. The Reserve Bank will announce the appointments once recruitment is complete.
