The Central Bank of Cuba published an update on a pilot scheme that uses the Caja Extra service, supported by newly participating economic actors, to help deliver pension and retirement payments in La Lisa, Havana. Banco Metropolitano has been receiving municipal reports indicating the measure is being executed through the Boscardo MSME, the Las Delicias local development project and the Los Titis self-employed business, with some cases maintaining the option to deliver cash directly to customers’ homes and an initial focus on retirees from the education sector. Following the initial phase, the programme is expected to expand beyond the capital and is intended to reduce footfall in bank branches while bringing services closer to beneficiaries.
