The Timor-Leste Ministry of Finance said the National Parliament approved the proposed General Regime of the Financial System and Banking Activity in a final plenary vote, with 51 votes in favor, six abstentions and no votes against. The ministry presented the outcome as a joint step by the government and parliament to strengthen confidence, support stability and modernize the national financial system. Vice Minister of Finance Regina de Jesus de Sousa, speaking on behalf of the government and the Central Bank of Timor-Leste, thanked parliament for its review and constructive debate. The ministry said lawmakers' suggestions and recommendations helped improve the bill so it can address current challenges and future needs. It also reiterated the government's commitment to implement the reform in cooperation with relevant institutions, with the stated aims of preserving financial stability, protecting citizens and supporting sustainable economic development.
