The National Bank of Moldova published its monthly statistics on Moldova’s domestic cash foreign exchange market for January 2025, covering exchange-office purchases and sales of foreign currency against the Moldovan leu carried out with individuals. Total turnover amounted to EUR 376.9 million equivalent, comprising EUR 283.8 million of purchases and EUR 93.1 million of sales. Euro-denominated transactions accounted for 69.8% of total turnover (EUR 262.9 million), followed by US dollars at 19.4% (EUR 73.3 million) and other currencies at 8.0% (EUR 30.2 million). Compared with the previous month, total turnover fell by 13.6% (purchases down 11.8% and sales down 18.7%), while versus January 2024 total turnover increased by 5.6% (purchases up 4.0% and sales up 11.0%). Euro equivalents are calculated using the average official monthly exchange rates of the Moldovan leu against the euro and the respective foreign currency, and the cash market information is published monthly by the last day of the month following the reporting period.
