The Central Bank of Estonia has opened a competition for the design of a special-design EUR 2 commemorative coin dedicated to veterans of the Estonian Defence Forces, which is scheduled to enter circulation in 2027. Designs must be submitted by 12.00 noon on 27 February 2026. The coin forms part of the bank’s “Resistance” series, which recognises activities and groups that helped resist the occupation of Estonia and supported an independent Estonia, and a silver coin dedicated to the Forest Brothers is due to be issued in 2026 under the same series. The competition is open to individuals and groups, with prizes of EUR 3,000 for first place, EUR 2,000 for second, and EUR 1,000 for third; designs must be provided in black and white and cover only the national side, including the circle of twelve stars, the year “2027”, and the text “EESTI”, with variants submitted separately and anonymised using a sealed envelope. The Central Bank of Estonia will announce the competition results by 30 July 2026 at the latest.
