The Timor-Leste Ministry of Finance reported that the National Parliament approved in general terms a proposed legal framework for administrative fees, with 36 votes in favor, none against and five abstentions. The proposal would establish uniform, transparent and predictable rules for fees charged by the state for public services, licenses, authorizations, registrations, certifications and the use of public assets or services. Vice Minister of Finance Regina de Jesus de Sousa said each fee should be justified, linked to the service provided and proportionate so that it does not impose an excessive burden on citizens or the private sector. Following the vote, the proposal was returned to the relevant parliamentary committee for detailed consideration before a final vote.
