Sweden's Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) and Sveriges Riksbank have launched Koll på cashen, an interactive web-based game aimed at improving young people’s understanding of personal finance, following survey findings that many young adults lack basic financial skills. The retro-style game follows three characters through life and requires players to make decisions on budgeting, saving, home purchases and pensions, with outcomes affected by life events and broader societal developments. Players can also earn points by correctly answering questions on core concepts such as inflation, interest rates and risk diversification. The tool was developed after discussions with researchers and upper secondary teachers who requested interactive classroom material to prompt discussion and test students’ knowledge. Koll på cashen was launched during Global Money Week and is primarily targeted at upper secondary teachers and students, while remaining available to the public.
