The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out through three websites that it says are offering insurance services without authorisation, and has initiated measures to have the sites blocked for users in Italy. The blocking actions by providers operating in Italy are under way, although the effective take-down may take a few days for technical reasons. The websites cited are www.angelototaro.it and angelototaro.it, agenziazt.com, and www.assicurazionigm.it and assicurazionigm.it. The cessation orders have been published in the “Defend ourselves from scams” section of the IVASS website, and the total number of sites subject to cessation orders since IVASS began exercising its blocking power in November 2023 has risen to 199. IVASS also advised consumers to take extra care with insurance offers made via the internet, phone or instant messaging, particularly short-term motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying that quotes and contracts relate to authorised firms and intermediaries by consulting IVASS registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
