The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority has appointed Simon Brönnimann as Head of the Recovery and Resolution division and as a member of its Executive Board, making permanent a role he has held on an interim basis since April 2026. He will take up the post formally on 1 June 2026 and succeeds Alain Girard, who became Head of the Banks division on 1 April 2026. The appointment followed an internal and external search. Brönnimann has worked at FINMA since 2007 and most recently served as interim head of Recovery and Resolution and, before that, as interim head of the Banks division for seven months. From 2024 to 2025 he was responsible for supervision of small banks and securities firms, and from 2015 to 2023 he led supervision of UBS and the CS Group, including follow-up work after the Credit Suisse crisis.
