The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued an alert to the public following Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited’s report of a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Customers who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent site or login screen were advised to contact the bank using the details in Shanghai Commercial Bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
