The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs published opening remarks and witness exchanges by Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren at a hearing on access to capital. Warren called for Congress to prohibit President Donald Trump’s social media company from giving investors who pay up to USD 100,000 a month early access to his posts, arguing that the service undermines market integrity. None of the hearing’s four witnesses indicated that the arrangement was beneficial to market integrity when questioned. Warren also criticized previously announced measures to expand retirement-account access to private equity, private credit and digital assets, as well as Securities and Exchange Commission proposals to reduce corporate disclosures. Witness Cantrell Dumas said less transparent and riskier assets were unlikely to help ordinary families, while reduced disclosures could widen the information gap between retail and sophisticated investors. He added that weaker enforcement would benefit scammers and fraudsters after Warren cited a decline of more than 20% in SEC enforcement activity last year.

Ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs urges ban on paid early access to presidential posts
Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren urged Congress to ban paid early access to President Trump’s social media posts, which can cost investors up to USD 100,000 a month. The hearing also raised concerns that expanding retirement-account access to private assets, reducing corporate disclosures and weakening SEC enforcement could expose retail investors to greater risks.
