The Bahamas Ministry of Finance published keynote remarks by Prime Minister Philip Davis at the opening of J.P. Morgan Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited's Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre offices, using the event to review the government’s economic and regulatory record rather than announce a new policy measure. Davis presented J.P. Morgan’s expansion as a sign of investor confidence in The Bahamas and linked that to the government’s fiscal management and regulatory work. He said the administration had reduced the debt-to-gross domestic product ratio, moved from deficits to surplus, improved government revenues through stronger compliance and secured credit upgrades after earlier downgrades. He also said The Bahamas now has compliant or largely compliant ratings across all 40 Financial Action Task Force recommendations, and cited the country’s debt-for-nature transaction as an example of combining fiscal discipline with financial innovation. The speech also set out areas for further engagement with the private sector. Davis urged J.P. Morgan to invest in Bahamian talent through mentoring and training, and invited institutions to partner with the government as it expands opportunities in blue finance and carbon markets.
