Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority and the National Council for Women signed a cooperation protocol to improve women’s financial literacy and access to nonbank financial services, particularly for underserved groups. The initiative will support women-owned micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, promote the use of financial technology and digital services, and strengthen awareness of financial fraud and harmful market practices. The parties will exchange data and research on women’s financial inclusion and provide joint financial and digital training to help women make informed decisions and participate in investment. A joint committee will oversee implementation. The authority reported that 1.8 million women received microfinance in the second quarter of 2026, representing 52.8% of beneficiaries and 45.4% of outstanding financing, or about EGP 33.7 billion. Women also held more than 26% of board seats at listed and nonbank financial companies at the end of 2025, exceeding the regulatory minimum of 25%.
