The Central Bank of Brazil used the opening of the 3rd Financial Education Meeting in Sao Paulo to restate that financial education is a core part of its financial citizenship agenda. In remarks by Director of Citizenship and Conduct Supervision Izabela Correa, the bank framed financial education as central to autonomy, inclusion and more informed decision-making, and said it has been expanding its work in this area through multiple initiatives. The main initiative highlighted was Aprender Valor, the Central Bank of Brazil’s flagship financial education program. Created in 2020, it supports the inclusion of financial education in schools through teaching materials and training for teachers and education networks. According to Correa, the program already reaches more than 150,000 education professionals and is present in more than 30,000 schools across the country. The next stage is expected to extend the program to secondary education. Aprender Valor also serves as the basis of the federal government’s Na Ponta do Lapis platform, coordinated by the Ministry of Education. The event also included the Aprender Valor 2026 awards ceremony and panel discussions on how financial education should adapt to younger audiences and rapid technological change. Speakers pointed to the need for different forms of communication, including language that resonates with adolescents, and linked financial education to wider issues including artificial intelligence, work, retirement and mental health.
