The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited press release on fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords via phone, email, or SMS. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent sites or screens was advised to contact the bank using official details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
