The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America held a subregional exchange for financial intelligence units from eight countries to strengthen their use of artificial intelligence in financial intelligence. Participants examined practical applications, implementation requirements and shared challenges, with an emphasis on responsible adoption and regional cooperation. Guatemala’s Special Verification Intendancy presented its work on data analytics and data science, including artificial intelligence, machine learning and language model use cases. Discussions also covered governance, infrastructure, information security and lessons from implementation, while the financial intelligence units of Honduras and El Salvador shared their experiences. The participating units identified potential applications and conditions for deploying the technology. They also provided input for the development and validation of machine learning and agentic artificial intelligence models for financial intelligence under a regional project implemented with the Inter-American Development Bank.
