The President of Malta, acting on the advice of the Cabinet of Ministers, has appointed Ms Rita Schembri as Deputy Governor Monetary Policy of the Central Bank of Malta for a five-year period, with effect from 14 January 2026. Schembri previously served as Head of the Bank’s Economic Analysis Department, leading analysis of economic developments in Malta and the euro area for the Bank’s main publications, coordinating economic projection exercises including for public finances, and overseeing surveys including the Business Dialogue Survey and, until recently, the Household Finance and Consumption Survey. Her experience includes representing the Bank on the European Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee and related projection-focused substructures, and participation in local fora including the Malta Statistics Authority and the Building Industry Consultative Council, as well as acting as the Bank’s alternate member on the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.
