The Central Bank of Iraq held an expanded meeting in Baghdad with licensed electronic payment service providers and relevant central bank departments to review the main challenges facing the sector and discuss how to improve services. The discussions focused on measures to raise the efficiency of Iraq's financial and banking system and support the country's broader digital transformation. The review covered technical, administrative and regulatory issues in payment companies' operations, alongside the firms' future plans. Key themes were stronger compliance with Central Bank of Iraq rules and instructions, infrastructure modernization, and upgrades to companies' technical and supervisory systems in line with international standards. Participants also discussed solutions and targeted initiatives to improve Iraq's electronic payments environment, with emphasis on security, efficiency, reliability, financial inclusion and a safe transition to a digital economy.
